Lincoln Memorial University is in Harrogate, Tennessee, about 20 miles by road from Paradise Point on Norris Lake, a drive of about 40 minutes. LMU-DCOM's own lodging page lists just five places to stay near campus. For a graduation or white coat weekend, Lakefront Paradise (sleeps 12) and Blue Haven (sleeps 15) keep up to 27 people together on one private point.
Where LMU is and how far it is from Norris Lake
Lincoln Memorial University's main campus is in Harrogate, Tennessee, about 20 miles by road from Paradise Point on Norris Lake. Routing estimates put the drive at about 36 to 42 minutes, so plan on about 40. The campus is at 6965 Cumberland Gap Parkway, where Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia meet at the Cumberland Gap.
It's a real drive, not next door. The route follows local roads out to US-25E, then runs north on US-25E, the Cumberland Gap Parkway, to Harrogate. LMU's own directions put the campus entrance about half a mile past Gondolier, on the left. Both homes are on the same point, so the drive is the same from either one.
The campus covers 1,000 wooded acres about 55 miles north of Knoxville, and it borders Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Main commencement and the Harrogate DCOM, CVM and PA ceremonies are held in Tex Turner Arena, 330 Mars/DeBusk Pkwy.
Which LMU programs are in Harrogate and which are in Knoxville
Many LMU programs and ceremonies are on the Harrogate campus, but the Duncan School of Law and the College of Dental Medicine are in Knoxville. Several other programs have Knoxville sites too. Check where your student's program meets before you book anywhere.
In spring 2026, the law school held commencement at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and the dental college held its ceremony at the Knoxville Convention Center. Downtown Knoxville is about 1 hour 10 to 20 minutes from Paradise Point, so for a Knoxville ceremony a hotel in the city may suit you better. For a ceremony in Harrogate, the lake is much closer than Knoxville.
- Harrogate main campus: the LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM), the College of Veterinary Medicine (LMU-CVM), the primary care Physician Assistant program and the Caylor School of Nursing's main-campus BSN.
- LMU-DCOM teaches the same four-year DO curriculum in Harrogate, in Knoxville and, since fall 2026, in Orange Park, Florida. Harrogate and Knoxville students spend years 1 and 2 on campus, then do clinical training at hospitals across the country in years 3 and 4.
- LMU-CVM's hands-on clinical facility, the DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center, is in Ewing, Virginia, about 12 miles from campus.
- Knoxville: the Duncan School of Law at Old City Hall, 601 West Summit Hill Drive; the College of Dental Medicine in the former St. Mary's building; the surgical-focus PA program at LMU-West Knoxville; and a BSN site at Cedar Bluff.
LMU commencement dates for 2026-27
LMU's next main commencement is Saturday, December 12, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Tex Turner Arena. The spring commencement on LMU's 2026-27 academic calendar is Saturday, May 8, 2027, at 10 a.m.
Graduates must arrive by 9 a.m., so a graduate staying on the lake should plan to leave Paradise Point by about 8 a.m. Check-in at both homes is 4 PM and check-out is 10 AM, so for a Saturday ceremony, arriving Friday is easiest. Book direct with code WELCOME for 10% off stays of 3+ nights in 2026.
Professional programs hold their own ceremonies. In 2026, LMU-DCOM graduated nearly 400 students on Saturday, May 9, at 4 p.m. in Tex Turner Arena, the same day as the main ceremony, with Awards and Hooding the day before. LMU-CVM's spring ceremony was the following Saturday. Confirm your program's 2027 date with LMU before you book.
- Saturday, December 12, 2026, 10 a.m.: main commencement in Tex Turner Arena. Graduates arrive by 9 a.m. in regalia, bags must be clear, and the ceremony is livestreamed.
- Saturday, December 12, 2026, 3 to 5 p.m.: LMU-CVM Class of 2027 Silver commencement, also in Tex Turner Arena.
- Saturday, May 8, 2027, 10 a.m.: spring commencement, per the 2026-27 academic calendar.
White coat ceremonies and other big LMU weekends
White coat ceremonies and homecoming are the other big dates on LMU's calendar. The dates move from year to year, so check the LMU calendar for yours. Here is what recent years looked like.
- LMU-DCOM White Coat Ceremony: April 27, 2024 (two ceremonies, one in Harrogate and one in Knoxville); February 1, 2025; and March 28, 2026. In 2025 and 2026 the Harrogate ceremony ran 4 to 6:30 p.m. in Tex Turner Arena. In 2026, 204 students took part in Harrogate and 196 in Knoxville.
- LMU-CVM White Coat Ceremony: September 12, 2025, and September 18, 2026, with the Silver cohort at 10 a.m. and the Blue cohort at 1 p.m. in Tex Turner Arena. A clear-bag policy applied in 2026.
- Physician Assistant program (Harrogate): white coat in July (July 11 in 2026) and commencement in early August (August 1 in 2026), both at 10 a.m. in Tex Turner Arena.
- Homecoming: October 10 to 12 in 2024, and in 2026 it began October 8. The 2024 schedule included an alumni golf tournament at Woodlake Lodge, Golf and Country Club in Tazewell, a Railsplitter 5K and a parade.
- Also on the 2026-27 calendar: fall break October 22 to 23, the Thanksgiving holiday November 25 to 27, and spring break March 29 to April 2, 2027.
Where to stay near LMU: hotels or a lake house
LMU's own lodging pages list only a handful of hotels and inns near campus. LMU-DCOM's Harrogate lodging page lists five: the Cumberland Gap Inn (about 2 miles), Econo Lodge Middlesboro (4 miles), Holiday Inn Express and Sleep Inn & Suites in Middlesboro (5 miles each) and Tazewell Motor Lodge (9 miles). LMU-CVM's lodging page adds a few more, including Woodlake Lodge in Tazewell and bed-and-breakfasts in Cumberland Gap and Middlesboro, and notes its list is not complete. Past those, the next hotel clusters it names are in Corbin, Kentucky, 48 to 53 miles from LMU, and near the Knoxville airport in Alcoa, 70 to 73 miles away.
A lake house trades a short drive for space. Campus is about 40 minutes away rather than a few miles, but your group stays in one place, cooks the celebration dinner together and ends the day at the fire pit. Lakefront Paradise sleeps 12 and Blue Haven sleeps 15, each with 4 bedrooms. Book both and up to 27 people stay on the same private point.
In a March 2026 review, a family who stayed at Lakefront Paradise for the LMU-DCOM White Coat Ceremony wrote that having a place where they could all be together made the weekend even more special.
Know the season. In December the lake is being drawn down for winter and the water averages about 40°F, per the Norris Lake Marina Association, so plan on the fire pit, not a swim. By May the water averages about 70°F, and TVA aims to have the lake at summer level by June 1.
A free day: Cumberland Gap and the Lincoln museum
If you have a free day, spend it right next to campus. LMU borders Cumberland Gap National Historical Park, and the National Park Service calls the gap "the first great gateway to the west." The park charges no entrance fee and has about 85 miles of trails and 14,000 acres of wilderness across Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. On campus, the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum holds what LMU calls one of the nation's largest private collections of Lincoln and Civil War artifacts.
From the lake, the park's visitor center is past campus on the same road, US-25E north through Harrogate and the Cumberland Gap Tunnel, so it fits on a ceremony day or the day after. Then it's back to Paradise Point for supper and the fire pit.
- Pinnacle Overlook: the National Park Service says you can see Harrogate and LMU from here, and on clear days Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. Weather can close the overlook road, so check with the park before you go.
- Cumberland Gap National Historical Park visitor center, 91 Bartlett Park Rd., Middlesboro, Kentucky: open daily 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. It is about 23 miles from Paradise Point, about 45 minutes by car.
- Gap Cave: ranger-led tours run May through August, so they can fit a May commencement trip but not a December one. Tours take 2 hours and cover 1.5 miles with 183 stairs, for ages 5 and up. Adults $8, children 5 to 12 $4. Reserve by noon the day before at 606-248-2817 or at the visitor center.
- Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, on campus at 120 Mars-DeBusk Parkway: open Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday noon to 5 p.m. Sunday hours, 1 to 5 p.m., run March through November only, so in December plan on a weekday or a Saturday afternoon. Closed Easter weekend, Thanksgiving weekend and during LMU holiday closures. Adults $6, seniors 60+ $5, children 6 to 12 $4, under 6 free, and LMU students and alumni get in free.
- Town of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee: a small town inside the park, with most of its downtown on the National Register of Historic Places, and places to eat like Angelo's in the Gap, Gap Creek Coffee House and Nineteen19 Grill & Bar.
Updated October 2026. Drive times are estimates from Paradise Point; marina hours and event dates change, so check with them before you go.
